Jacob K. Javits Convention Center New York, New York
Opened in 1986, the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center offers approximately 739,400 square feet of exhibit space, 36,500 square feet of meeting space and 30,000 square feet of ballroom space. A planned $1.7 billion expansion project will add approximately 190,000 square feet of prime exhibit space, 100,000 square feet of flexible exhibit/ballroom space and 54,000 square feet of dedicated meeting space. Construction on Phase I of the project, along with a new headquarters hotel to be built across the street from the Center, is scheduled for completion by 2010. Phase II of the project is still awaiting funding; however, if approved, this portion will increase the total available space by an estimated 350,000 square feet of exhibit space, 129,000 square feet of meeting space and 112,000 square feet of ballroom space. Since 2005 and continuing today, CSL is integrally involved with the various market and space planning aspects of the current proposed major expansion project for the Javits Convention Center in New York City. CSL is working as an integral part of the Expansion Planning Committee, project architects, public sector stakeholders and Center management, providing advisory service, detailed research into current convention center and hotel industry development and operational trends, as well as coordination of focus groups of New York City area business leaders and convention/trade industry representatives. Additionally, CSL has worked throughout the master plan and design process with the architect team to ensure the expansion design and programmatic elements are congruent with current and potential user space requirements, as well as competitive state-of-the-industry convention centers. In addition to CSL's current work, in the late 1990's, CSL project managers directed a major study for the expansion of the Center. The study focused on the market demand, expansion program, financial performance and economic impacts analysis. Historical operating data, surveys of current and potential facility users, analysis of competitive facilities and industry trends were reviewed. Recommendations focused on market supportable exhibit, meeting and ballroom space. << Back to Convention Centers Listing |
