Southern Methodist University engaged CSL International to assess the viability of undertaking a major renovation of Moody Coliseum. As part of this effort, CSL developed a business plan for a $40 million renovation of Moody Coliseum that would be funded by facility naming rights, donor recognition opportunities and premium seating (suites, loge boxes, club seats and floor seats). In order to develop the business plan, CSL conducted extensive market research including the compilation of benchmark data on other collegiate arena renovation projects, the completion of over 500 surveys with donors, ticket buyers and students to assess support for the potential project, completion of four focus group sessions with project stakeholders and the development of financial projections and a funding plan to complete the renovations.
In 2011, the SMU Board of Regents approved the $40 million project after a $20 million lead naming rights gift was secured. Construction will begin in the Fall of 2012 and will be completed prior to the 2013-14 basketball season.
SMU subsequently engaged CSL to evaluate the incremental revenue opportunities from a potential upgraded scoreboard and LED signage package as well as additional facility improvements to enhance the venues concert capabilities (stage, rigging, acoustics, etc.) as part of the renovation process.
